SPRING 2027 Black Box Productions

At Lovegood, everyone involved is a student—whether you’re in a class or in a Mainstage production. We’re always building artists at every stage.

Our Black Box productions provide students the opportunity to perform as part of a small cast and with an emphasis on a higher level of artistry. There is no prior Lovegood experience needed as an audition requirement for Black Box as there is for our Mainstage productions. The focus is on the acting & performance with streamlined sets, costumes & props.

A Black Box show is designed to feel closer to a professional performance environment—more refined, more production-driven, and more focused on the final product. The focus is the production itself, not an educational pathway. There is no production fee for participating in a black box production or production team volunteer commitment.

Black Box gives students & performers more autonomy—and that comes with more ownership: deeper personal preparation; stronger individual accountability; more responsibility to bring choices, craft, and consistency; a collaborative, professional rehearsal room mindset.

Black Box is a more professional pace and expectation. It is where we raise the performance bar and invite artists across the community to meet it.
